Students will learn how authors use descriptive language to help readers build clear pictures in their minds. By exploring images such as a mountain peak wrapped in cloud, a lake turned into a sheet of gold and tiny waves glittering in the sunlight, students discover how imagery can make a setting feel vivid, memorable and full of wonder.
By the end of the week, students will be able to identify imagery, explain the picture it creates, make supported inferences about a character's feelings, and discuss how imagery contributes to atmosphere, meaning and author's purpose.
