The Dive is a Year 7–8 Five-Day Text Exploration resource designed around the pack focus Author Craft and the week focus Sentence Structure. Through the story of a student standing on a high diving platform and facing the decision to step forward, students investigate how the author uses varied sentence lengths, fragments, pacing and contrast to immerse readers in a moment of uncertainty and courage.

Students will learn how authors deliberately vary sentence length and structure to change the pace of a text and shape the reader's experience. By examining the contrast between longer descriptive passages, short sentences and single-word fragments, students explore how sentence structure can stretch a moment, build anticipation and place emphasis on significant actions and decisions.
