Support thoughtful reading of The 13-Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths, illustrated by Terry Denton, a humorous adventure about two friends trying to create a book while living in an extraordinary treehouse. With distractions, unexpected visitors and increasingly ridiculous events interrupting their work, finishing their story is anything but straightforward. Combining playful language and detailed illustrations, the book invites readers to explore imagination, friendship and how words and pictures work together to tell a story.

These comprehensive guided reading plans support teacher-led discussion through questions exploring comprehension, inference, language, text organisation and author’s purpose. Students are encouraged to draw on evidence, explain their thinking and consider different perspectives. Conscious communication questions explore characters’ feelings and needs, nurturing empathy and a compassionate classroom, while suggested response activities extend understanding and strengthen connections between reading and writing.

Themes explored: friendship, imagination and creativity, storytelling, teamwork, responsibility, distractions and perseverance, problem-solving, adventure, humour, fantasy and reality.
