How are you getting on with your New Year Resolutions?

It’s a new year. A fresh start, a time to say goodbye to the old, to embrace the new. It’s a time of hope, a time of promise. And of course, resolutions.

To be honest, I don’t make them. I haven’t done so for a long time.

Don’t get me wrong; I think targets, goals or whatever you want to call them are great, if they are dealt with in the right tone. Personally, I prefer the term ‘intentions’. I set them all the time, both short and for the longer term.

For me, they differ from ‘resolutions’ or goals in that they are ‘softer’ and allow for more fluid movement through life, and with that comes less self-criticism, more self-love.

I have a great tool for intention setting that I first came across when exploring the Law of Attraction – the intention wheel. It’s simple to use and when completed on a daily basis can bring you wonderful results.

For example, a few years back I wanted to get fit, to dust of the running shoes and pound the pavements in memory of the sporty person I used to be. Years of living the life of London had taken their toll and it was time to shake off the excess, so I started to use the wheel. In the centre of the wheel, I wrote the intention as if it was achieved, ‘I am fit and healthy’, as opposed to writing what I wanted to be, ‘I want to be fit and healthy’.

Then I created 12 ‘spokes’ around my intention. For each of the twelve spokes, I searched my memory banks for any time, big or small, when my intention had been true in my life. At first, some of the memories where very small ‘I went for a long walk last week’, ‘I swam 4 lengths of the pool at school’. The important this is that you feel the truth of each statement no matter its size significance. Complete all twelve spokes this way, complete the wheel every day and relax into the changes that will come your way.

As for my intention? Yes, it came true, I became fitter and healthier although not quite in the way in envisioned it to happen – four days after starting this intention wheel, and out of the blue I became a non-smoker. Seems my body and soul had a different idea of what ‘fit and healthy’ looked like for me at that time. I’m grateful for that wisdom and am still smoke free today.

Wishing you a wonderful 2015 whatever your hopes and dreams!
