Really? Through some dramatic calculations, it has been deemed that 21 January is the most depressing day of the year. Christmas has passed us by, the holidays are over, it’ is cold outside and it feels like a long time since we’ve seen the sun, the bills are coming in thick and fast; need I say more?
So just how do we remain positive this time of year? The following questions focus your attention on how you can help yourself to be happy. Keep asking these questions and you will come so use to asking them that you won’t even know that you are doing it. Then you'll have given yourself the gift of happiness, which will make you (you guessed it) happy.
1. What was my favourite part of today?
This is a good question to ask yourself as the end of the day draws. It will help you to feel content and happy as you fall sleep. It also helps develop a habit of focusing on the best thing that happened in any given day rather than the worst. If you make this part of your bedtime routine, it will become second nature.
2. What am I grateful for?
This is a good question for any time of the day. There is a strong correlation between happiness and gratitude making this question very powerful.
3. What can I do to make someone else happy?
Incorporate a spirit of generosity into your daily life. Your gift doesn’t need to cost money; a kind word or a smile can go a long way, listening to someone with intent is kindness personified.
And the best thing about these questions? It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, these questions can add to the quality of your life and contribute to your wellbeing.
