According to Wikipedia, ‘A New Year's resolution is a secular tradition… in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice,… beginning from New Year's Day.’ Did you make any resolutions? Are they still intact?! ‘The Independent’ revealed last year that ‘the average length of time a person can expect to keep to their promise is around three and a half weeks, or 24 days.’ So if you did make a make a New Year’s Resolution and you have broken it already take comfort in the fact you are not alone.

‘The Independent’ went on to say that Friday 24th January had been given the name ‘Fail Friday’ but I would beg to differ. I think it’s good to have goals, targets to aim for. We may not achieve all we set out to do, especially if we have high expectations of ourselves, but in my mind that isn’t failure…failure isn’t trying at all.

Let me finish by saying that we may not be one of the 3% who are ‘likely to keep strictly to a resolution for the full 12 months’ but we can all aim to better ourselves, even if it takes several attempts to reach our target.
